Sustainable Products at Bargain Prices

Posted on May 3, 2009 - Categories: Green News

Not long ago, the eco-friendly movement and the organic lifestyle were only for those who could afford it. Shopping in the organic section and buying sustainable products meant that shoppers would spend twice as much on groceries and household products, just because of the higher cost of making these products. Stores like K-Mart and Wal-Mart didn’t even fathom selling organic materials, and when they did, it was still at top dollar compared to their everyday low prices on consumer products and groceries that weren’t so environmentally conscious.

The big move to go green has sparked interest in stores around the world to find ways to produce organic foods and sustainable products in a much more affordable manner. Specialty shops, which were once the only place to find eco-friendly clothing, household products, and more, are now being given a little friendly competition by stores that didn’t stand a chance in the green world just a few years ago. Starting with Wal-Mart’s big move to offer the reusable shopping bags, more and more sustainable products are being found in stores like this.

These stores have recently decided to start selling sustainable clothing, which is a great choice for bargain hunters everywhere. Many people that are affected by the economy felt that they only had two choices: save money or save the environment. Now, consumers can do both. T-shirts, jeans, and other apparel are now in the works, made of sustainable materials like organic cotton. The best part is that these clothes can be found at bargain prices, which is welcome news for consumers that have had to sacrifice their love of the environment for the expense that it created. Before long, it’s likely that everyone will be selling eco-friendly products that go far beyond the organic food aisle in the grocery department.

Society is in a unique place right now, and with the drive to go green, many people feel like they can’t contribute simply because they can’t afford it. However, when you can run down to Wal-Mart or K-Mart and pick up a pair of organic jeans at their super low prices, it’s another great opportunity for the green lifestyle to affect more people and be more available to them. First it was the tiny organic section in the grocery departments, which has been growing in recent years. After that came the energy star appliances and eco-friendly light bulbs and cleaning products. The fact that they’re making their next move in the clothing department is a welcome change for environmentalists everywhere. After all, the best way to get the world to go green is to make it an affordable alternative, which is what these stores do best.
