Solar Wind Energy is No Longer a Novelty

Posted on May 2, 2009 - Categories: Solar

Economic times are tough. The environmental crisis is becoming something of national attention. Still, so many people see wind energy as something that they simply cannot afford, or something that isn’t for their home, but more for big corporations and actual power companies as a whole. They’re wrong. Wind energy is becoming increasingly popular with new home construction and home remodeling projects. With the mad scramble to go green and save the environment, many people are doing whatever they can to help out, including investing in wind energy.

Alternative energy sources are a popular topic right now. Anyone with a notion to convert their home to make it more energy efficient automatically turns to solar power, while wind energy is left to the big spenders. People think of wind energy, and they are often left with the image of the large turbines up on the hillside that power landfills and giant factories. In reality, wind energy has changed a lot in recent years, and can be used by anyone that’s willing to give it a shot.

Wind energy doesn’t work with wind alone. Most systems have a solar connection, where the wind turbines create energy based on the sun’s effect on the earth. This energy is collected and stored using the three-bladed turbine, which is the most common design in wind energy generation today. There are smaller turbines that can be used by homeowners and small towns, but many people might not be aware of the availability of this product. The smaller turbines will help to generate electricity that can be stored in batteries and then converted to AC power to power homes, schools, businesses, and any other facility that needs an alternative power source.

Wind energy can be generated at as low as 7 mph, so those who don’t live in areas with significant wind shouldn’t feel that they aren’t able to harness this energy source. As long as the time is taken to consider the location of these turbines and how effective it will be to producing energy, anyone can use wind energy for any of their power needs. Wind power is a cost effective renewable energy source, and it generates continuous power for residents that use it. The system works with off grid and on grid systems, including solar off grid systems that can be used in conjunction with the wind energy. As with any new product, a professional consultation can be done for free, which will allow consumers to better understand what wind energy can do for them.
