Solar Farms So Fair

Deserts don’t have to be barren wastelands.

They don’t have to be cities brimming with casinos, either.

Nature created these humid places for a reason.  Can that reason be something like “to harness the raw energy from the sun and transform it into usable energy for the denizens of the Earth?”

 You bet!

These places are perfect locations for solar farms!

In San Luiz, Obispo County, California, a solar farm – a wide expanse of land populated by hundreds upon hundreds of solar panels – is currently under construction.  The field is 9.5 square miles big, and is said to rival the biggest solar farm in existence today which can be found in Portugal.  Since California is a sunny state, the San Luiz solar farm is expected to collect enough solar energy to provide electricity to 190,000 homes in the US.

Pretty neat, huh?

In Spain, another solar farm is being built in Sevilla, Sanlúcar la Mayor and it is said to provide a breathtaking sight.  Imagine 600 solar panels redirecting the rays of the sun to a single solar tower that transforms the light and heat energy into electricity that provides power to 6,000 households.

Solar farms are an excellent way of making good use of idle land.  Experts predict that solar technology will become even more popular in the coming years, and this will lead to more affordable materials that will allow governments from all over the world to build solar farms like the ones mentioned above.

Talk about the future looking bright, indeed.

HippyGreen’s Hippy Fact Of The Day:  Did you know that the sun produces more energy in a single second than other earthbound energy sources have produced throughout history?  So potent is the sun’s heat that if a piece of this living star – say, the size of a needle – was to be placed on Earth, it will kill mammals within 100 miles of its range.
